His film credits include KES; BLACK BEAUTY; A TOUCH OF CLASS (Oscar nominated); THE RULING CLASS; THE MIRROR CRACK'D; DRIFTWOOD and many more.
John has also composed extensively for TV including the ITV dramas JACK THE RIPPER; JEKYLL AND HYDE and WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION, starring Diana Rigg and provided the title music to BBC TV's CRIMEWATCH. His choral arrangements for the Erato recordings of the Choir of New College have won critical acclaim; the recording of his large scale cantata, MISSA CELTICA also featuring the Choir of New College and the English Chamber Orchestra , was released on Erato in 1999. He was executive musical director and principal arranger on Jose Carreras’ PASSION and TRUE PASSION.
In recent years John has focused on arranging and orchestrating for leading stage musicals such as LES MISERABLES; SPEND, SPEND, SPEND; LA CAVA and HONK! and providing music for productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company; Royal National Theatre, including John Caird’s HAMLET with Simon Russell Beale in the title role; the Royal Court and the Deutshes Scauspielhaus.
