Summary
Born in Bilbao, Spanish composer and conductor Jesus Arámbarri studied composition at the Vizcaino Conservatory in Bilbao and later in Paris with Paul Le Flan and Paul Dukas.
From 1933 Arámbarri held the position of Director of the part-time Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, which developed under his leadership into the first full-time civic orchestra in Spain. He integrated himself into Spanish musical life by arranging various musical activities throughout the country and performing large-score choral works with the various Basque choirs in Northern Spain.
In 1953 Arámbarri became a professor at the Madrid Conservatory and conductor of the Madrid Symphony Orchestra. He was also appointed President of the Spanish Conductors' Association.
Arámbarri's compositions include many works for voice and accompaniment such as Viento del sur, Castilla for soprano, chorus and orchestra, Eight Basque Songs for soprano and orchestra, Gabon-zar Sorginak for soprano and orchestra, as well as a string quartet and various solo piano works.
