Biography

Born on September 6th 1932, Canadian composer Gilles Tremblay studied at the Conservatories of Montreal and Paris where he was taught analysis by Olivier Messiaen, piano by Yvonne Loriod and ondes Martenot by Maurice Martenot. Through much of the early stages of his career, he performed as a specialist on the ondes Martenot. It was during his time on Stockhausen’s summer courses at Darmstadt that he became interested in electro-acoustic techniques. Since 1962 he has taught at the Conservatory of Quebec and Montreal. In 1991, he was made an Officer of the National Order of Quebec.
