Summary
Jesús María Legido González was born in Valladolid, where he began his musical education at the Professional Conservatory of Music. By the beginning of the seventies, he moved to Barcelona to finish his studies and graduate in piano, composition and orchestration. In Barcelona, he studied with Miquel Farré, Joseph Poch and Xavier de Montsalvatge. Afterwards, he moves back to Madrid, where he continues his composition and conducting studies with Antón García Abril, Román Alís and Enrique García Asensio. During the eighties, he was granted many composition prizes, among which, he received the Cristóbal Halffter Award for an organ piece. He lectures Performing and Analysis of Contemporary Music at the Valladolid University and is a member of the executive board of the Spanish Association of Symphonic Composers (ACSE). Legido has written choral, chamber and symphonic works for a great variety of musical configurations, his expertise in writing and performing works for organ is also outstanding. He has offered lectures on various topics at different universities and since 1992 he teaches harmony and counterpoint at the Queen Sofía College of Music in Madrid.
Biography
Jesús María Legido González was born in Valladolid, where he began his musical education at the Professional Conservatory of Music. By the beginning of the seventies, he moved to Barcelona to finish his studies and graduate in piano, composition and orchestration. In Barcelona, he studied with Miquel Farré, Joseph Poch and Xavier de Montsalvatge and was awarded the composition and orchestration prize in 1976. Afterwards, he moves back to Madrid, where he continues his composition and conducting studies with Antón García Abril, Román Alís and Enrique García Asensio. Among other musical activities, he accompanied the Portuguese soprano Manuela de Sa on the piano in a series of concerts throughout Spain, where they performed a series of songs by Legido based on poems by Juan Ramón Jiménez, José Luís Hidalgo and León Felipe. During the eighties, he was granted many composition prizes, among which, he received the Cristóbal Halffter Award for an organ piece. He lectures Performing and Analysis of Contemporary Music at the Valladolid University and is a member of the executive board of the Spanish Association of Symphonic Composers (ACSE). He receives commissions from prestigious Spanish festivals, and his works are often recorded for Spanish National Radio and Television. His outstanding works on Spanish poets were recorded by the Spanish National Orchestra featuring texts by Miguel Hernández, Antonio Machado or Federico García Lorca. The Spanish National Radio also dedicated a composer profile to Legido within the Spanish Composers series.
Legido has written choral, chamber and symphonic works for a great variety of musical configurations, his expertise in writing and performing works for organ is also outstanding. His works have been commissioned by the Spanish National Orchestra, the Orchestra of Castilla y León, the Spanish National Radio and Television Orchestra, the Centre for the Dissemination of Contemporary Music (CDMC), the city of Salamanca, the autonomous community of Castile and Leon, the council of Valladolid, the Community of Madrid and the University of Alcalá de Henares, among others.
He has offered lectures on various topics at different universities and since 1992 he teaches harmony and counterpoint at the Queen Sofía College of Music in Madrid.
