Biography
French composer, Jean-Claude Éloy, was born near Rouen on June 15th 1938. He studied composition with Milhaud at the Paris Conservatory and with Hermann Scherchen and Henri Pousseur at the Darmstadt summer courses, as well as with Boulez in Basle, who conducted and recorded his work Équivalences (1963). Karlheinz Stockhausen invited him to work with him for a time in the Cologne electronic music studio in which Stockhausen was producing some of the most experimental and avant garde music of the century. Here Éloy composed Shanti for voices, instruments and electronics (1974). His music is strongly influenced by Eastern music and aesthetics, particularly Hindu music.
