Mattias Sjöberg (b. 1971 in Uppsala) spent his youth in the northernmost part of Sweden. Growing up surrounded by Nordic choral traditions and church music meant that choral singing has always played a central role in his life.

Biography

Mattias Sjöberg (b. 1971 in Uppsala) spent his youth in the northernmost part of Sweden. Growing up surrounded by Nordic choral traditions and church music meant that choral singing has always played a central role in his life.

In addition to performing in high-standard choirs he is very active as a choral composer, with a particular focus on sacred music written for the various choirs of Uppsala Cathedral. He has had many works commissioned, including for the Dag Hammarskjöld memorial in 2011 and the main celebration to mark the 500-year anniversary of the reformation in Sweden. In 2017 he was awarded the first prize in the National Composition Competition for Choral Music organized by the Choral Society of the Diocese of Stockholm. In addition to many places in Sweden, his music has been performed in Germany, France, Denmark, Iceland and the United Kingdom.
