Programme Note
Out of the Night was written to be played in order to ‘greet the dawn’ outside of St Catherine’s Monastery, Mt Sinai. It may also be played anywhere, or from a distance, preferably in a church or a building with some resonance. It is written for a single viola player who is also required to sing very simply.
