Lalishri , the new violin concerto by John Tavener will be given its world premiere at the newly refurbished Royal Festival Hall on September 26. The soloist on this occasion is Nicola Benedetti, for whom the piece was originally written. Benedetti will be accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Andrew Litton. The work was commissioned by the London Philharmonic Orchestra with support from The Michael Marks Charitable Trust, and the Southbank Centre with support from the Hunter Foundation. Lalishri was inspired by the fourteenth century Hindu saint and poet Lalla Yogishwari.
