O’Regan wins British Composer Award
7th December 2007
Tarik O’Regan has won his second British Composer Award for the choral work Threshold of Night . The prize was awarded in the Liturgical category and was announced in a ceremony held at London’s Glazier’s Hall.
The piece, which is a setting of poetry by Kathleen Raine, was commissioned by St John’s College, Cambridge and first performed by its choir under David Hill. Composed for Advent, in O’Regan’s words the work “aims to highlight the yearning that all societies have, in their time of need, for guidance from beyond their community”.
Threshold of Night has recently been recorded by US choir Conspirare for release on the Harmonia Mundi label in 2008.
