Michael Nyman and performance artist Carsten Nicolai have developed a live performance that will receive its premiere on March 27 at MaerzMusik Festival in Berlin. The performance is based on an early Nyman composition from 1977 Pretty Talk for George Brecht which Nyman wrote during his experimental years inspired by the famous Fluxus artist. The sound material is based on an advertising disc for bird food that features legendary budgie Sparkie Williams. Click here to listen to Sparkie Williams.
On March 26, Nyman will participate with Steve Reich and Alvin Lucier in a panel discussion with the theme “American Avantgarde Revisited”.
