Annelies premiere marks Anne Frank anniversary
8th May 2009
Annelies, the Anne Frank oratorio by James Whitbourn will have its European premiere at the Festival Classique Den Haag this June on the day of the eightieth anniversary of Anne Frank’s birth. This is the first time that the piece, which features a libretto compiled and translated by Melanie Challenger from the world famous diary, will have been heard in Frank’s native Holland.
With an international line-up of performers including soprano Arianna Zukerman, violinist Daniel Hope and the Residentie Kamerkoor conducted by Jos Vermunt, performances take place at the German Church of The Hague on June 12 and 13. Excerpts from the piece will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on June 14.
