Rolf Wallin – A Collection of Country Premieres
25th September 2009
The music of Rolf Wallin reaches far and wide this autumn as it is heard in Canada, Denmark, Italy, Finland, Norway and the United Kingdom. Following the world premiere of his newly commissioned string quartet Curiosity Cabinet at the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition, a performance of Boyl at the Venice Biennale Contemporary Music Festival, and the Danish premiere of Strange News, all in September, there swiftly follows a number of country premieres. Under City Skin, a new viola concerto written for Lars Anders Tomter this summer, receives its Finnish premiere with Tomter and the Chamber Orchestra of Lapland under the direction of John Storgårds on October 5, this is followed by the UK premiere of his fiddle concerto Imella with soloist Susanne Lundeng and the Bodø Sinfonietta conducted by Christian Lindberg at Cadogan Hall, London on October 17, shortly followed by the Canadian premiere in Toronto of the ensemble version of Strange News on October 29. Other works Rolf is currently working on include a String Trio for Anssi Karttunen, Ernst Kovacic and Steve Dann, and a large orchestral work which will be premiered by the Bergen Philharmonic next year.
