A new recording has just been made of works by Geoffrey Burgon, to be released on Chandos in spring 2010. Mezzo soprano Sarah Connolly has recorded the song cycle Merciless Beauty and the disc also includes his new Cello Concerto: ‘Il fuggitivo’ (Josephine Knight, cello) and his recent Viola Concerto: Ghosts of the Dance (Philip Dukes, viola). Rumon Gamba conducts the City of London Sinfonia.
A new concerto for saxophone by Burgon will be premiered at Marlborough College in May 2010, performed by saxophonist James Soper with the Marlborough College wind orchestra, conducted by Alex Arkwright.
