Ole Schmidt (1928-2010)
30th March 2010
Danish conductor and composer Ole Schmidt has died, aged 81. Outside Denmark, Ole Schmidt is probably best known for his recordings of Carl Nielsen’s six symphonies with the London Symphony Orchestra from the 70s, and his work as principal conductor for the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra 1978-84. Besides his work as conductor Ole Schmidt found time to write several concertos, string quartets, music for winds, to say nothing about his incidental music for Carl Th Dreyer's silent film Jeanne d'Arc.
