Judith Weir: Music, Untangled is one of this year’s features at The Bath International Music Festival .
On May 30 Exaudi will perform Love bade me welcome at Christ Church.
Then, on June 5, Judith Weir: Music Untangled I features
the soprano Elin Manahan Thomas and performances of Piano Trio Two , Distance and Enchantment , King Harald’s Saga and Piano Quartet . This concert will be introduced by Judith Weir. The programme explores the resonances of English, Hebridean, Welsh and Appalachian music in
Judith Weir’s chamber works, full of haunted enchantment as well as wit and vitality.
In the second event, Judith Weir: Music Untangled II on June 6 at The Chapel Art’s Centre Judith Weir is in conversation with Joanna MacGregor to discuss her inspirations. Her long-standing relationship with the Indian storyteller Vayu Naidu is drawn into focus with musical storytelling by both Vayu and students from Bath Spa University, who will also perform some of her glorious choral works. Then follows a showing of her TV opera Armida , a thrilling contemporary love story set in a war zone, charting the passionate relationship between Armida, a television journalist, and Rinaldo, an army officer. Also at The Chapel Art’s centre, visit Judith’s Room – an installation of objects and ideas that influence her work.
On Sunday June 6 Peter King and the Choir of Bath Abbey will include Ascending in Heaven in their Festival Service
The Festival also features The Soldier’s Tale by Igor Stravinsky on June 6.
