The Snowman
1st July 2010
Chester Music has signed a worldwide publishing agreement with Howard Blake for his score to the hugely successful, 1982 animated film, The Snowman, based on Raymond Briggs’ children’s story. The agreement takes immediate effect.
Howard Blake’s score is a classic family favourite to audiences worldwide. It is best known for Walking in the Air, the song, with lyrics also by the composer, which reached the top of the pop charts in 1985 and has gone on to become an international standard. It is a best-seller in recorded and printed music form.
The Snowman also exists as a theatrical production,
The Snowman Stage Show, which has made its home in London’s West End for the last 13 years, and which is now touring in South East Asia, with plans for further productions elsewhere. The Snowman Stage Show will be released on DVD later this year.
James Rushton, Managing Director of Chester Music, comments:
Howard’s marvellous score to The Snowman is a modern standard - a real rarity. It reaches out to audiences everywhere, and in many forms, whether in print, as a concert work,
as a theatrical Christmas favourite or in its original film and
recorded forms. The potential is huge.
