New Holt Chamber Pieces
6th July 2010
Simon Holt has had a busy few months writing a series of chamber pieces. In September there will be the premiere of a violin and cello duo, Telarañas (Spider Web), written for Jack Liebeck (recent winner of the Classical Brit Award for Young British Performer) and Jakob Kullberg. The premiere will take place in Jakob’s native Denmark and can be heard in the UK later this year in Huddersfield.
October offers the chance to hear the premiere by BCMG of a set of pieces, a knot of time, the first piece of which began its life in 1992. Scored for soprano with clarinet, viola, cello and double bass, the texts are from the poems of Lorca (a favourite of the composer’s). Simon was commissioned to add to the collection in 2008 and subsequently wrote El grito and El silencio for a private event. A further two movements, Aire de Nocturno and El puñal en el Corazon have recently been commissioned for BCMG and audiences will have the opportunity to hear the world premiere of the entire set on October 10 (see calendar for details). The soloist will be Sarah Leonard.
