Abrahamsen in the Netherlands
3rd February 2012
Abrahamsen in the Netherlands Mid-February will offer plenty of opportunities in the Netherlands to hear Hans Abrahamsen’s music. The Asko|Schönberg Ensemble conducted by Reinbert de Leuw will present a concert of Abrahamsen’s music and arrangements on February 16 including Wald, commissioned by the AskoSchönberg Ensemble in 2009, and the Dutch premiere of Nielsen’s Symphony No 6 in an arrangement for ensemble which Abrahamsen created in 2010. The concert will take place in Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw.
The Radio Kamer Filharmonie with their chief conductor Michael Schønwandt will perform the world premiere of Abrahamsen’s new chamber orchestra arrangement of Debussy’s Children’s Corner on February 17 and 19 in Utrecht as part of the Dutch Radio 4’s Debussy Festival. A welcome contribution to Debussy’s chamber orchestra repertoire, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam will perform the piece just two days later with the same forces.
More music by Hans Abrahamsen will be presented at Tage für neue Kammermusik Witten, an annual festival curated and produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk, taking place April 27 – 29. The Arditti Quartet will present the world premiere of his String Quartet No. 4, and the Asko|Schönberg will give the German premiere of Wald. Also on the programme will be Walden and Three Little Nocturnes, continuing the close collaboration with WDR in which the Four Orchestral Pieces were presented in July and Schnee was premiered and recorded a few years ago.
