No stranger to writing powerful orchestral music and collaborations with international dance companies, Joby Talbot has composed Chamber Symphony for choreographer Medhi Walerski. It has been commissioned by Netherlands Dance Theatre with partners Carolina Performing Arts at Chapel Hill and Norwegian Ballet. Walerski has been a leading dancer at NDT and in 2008 he made his debut as a choreographer. The work opens on October 4 at NDT1’s home in The Hague before touring both locally and internationally.
DESH is a new full-length contemporary solo and the most personal work to date from celebrated choreographer and performer Akram Khan. DESH meaning ‘homeland’ in Bengali, draws multiple tales of land, nation, resistance and convergence into the body and voice of one man trying to find his balance in an unstable world. The music is by Jocelyn Pook who worked closely with Khan in Bangladesh and the UK to create the score. Fresh from winning the 2012 Lawrence Olivier Award for Best Dance production the work returns to Sadler’s Wells theatre in London on October 4. Read more here.
L.A Dance Project is a program of events founded by renowned choreographer and dancer Benjamin Millepied. Its premiere performances, commissioned by Glorya Kaufman presents Dance at the Music Center are scheduled for September 22 and 23 at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Christopher Wheeldon and Joby Talbot worked together for the first time in 2007 when they created the ballet Fools Paradise. The work makes its Royal Ballet debut on November 3. Buy tickets here.
