Available on Opus Arte from January 1 2015.
On February 17 2015, after a highly successful run at the Royal Opera House Christopher Wheeldon and Joby Talbot’s critically acclaimed new ballet, The Winter’s Tale will be coming to cinema viewers across America.
Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, composer Joby Talbot, and designer Bob Crawley prove to be a winning combination. Having previously created the acclaimed Alice in Wonderland, for the Royal Opera House in 2010, they were commissioned once again to create another ballet. Based on the 1611 Shakespeare play of the same name, The Winter’s Tale defies genre, combining comedy, tragedy, love, friendship, jealousy and redemption in an epic tale. In three distinct acts, the story first falls down the dark spiral of King Leontes all-consuming jealousy, the consequences of which are deeply tragic. Followed by a seemingly hopeless love between the haves and have not’s. Through remorse and redemption the story culminates with a joyous reconciliation. Talbot’s score for The Winter’s Tale perfectly compliments the choreography, conveying deep emotions and beautifully telling the story.
