Symphonies and Orchestral Music
Following the premiere of his first symphony, Symphony No 2 'Sacred Places', commissioned by North Wales International Music Festival, will be premiered on October 1 2016. Robert Guy will conduct the NEW Sinfonia at St Asaph Cathedral. Mealor is also currently working on this third symphony, a euphonium concerto and a new work for violin solo and string orchestra.
Choral Repertoire
Mealor's latest choral work sets text by Christina Rossetti. To Seek Where Shadows Are, is scored for mixed chorus a cappella and was co-commissioned by John Armitage Memorial and Pro Coro Canada. The UK premiere takes place at JAM on the Marsh on July 8.
The Shadows of War, for SATB choir, timpani, percussion and strings will also be premiered at the festival on July 14. This work is a Mass to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, 1916-2016 and it was commissioned jointly by the Welsh Proms and JAM. The Welsh Proms premiere performance takes place on July 19 at St David's Hall, Cardiff.
Brass Band Works
New works for Brass Band include The Heart of Hidden Flame, which is now available from Studio Music. This summer another new work for brass band, Fantasia on a Theme by Henry Purcell, will be premiered by the National Youth Brass Band of Wales. Sheet music will be available soon.
Next Season
In 2017 Mealor will make his debut at Lincoln Center in New York. On May 29, as part of his term as Composer-in-Residence with Distinguished Concerts International New York, Mealor's Crucifixus will be performed at David Geffen Hall. The concert will feature Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International. James Jordan will conduct. Singers can apply to take part. Mealor also continues as Composer-in-Residence with Canada's professional chamber choir Pro Coro Canada.
