Sarah Kirkland Snider's 'Unremembered' featured at Cross-Linx, Big Ears, and SHIFT Festivals
1st March 2017
Her hour-long work — for orchestra, vocals, and electronics, and in newly arranged chamber orchestra and octet versions — explores the fragility and mystery of childhood recollection. She was inspired by poems and illustrations by Nathaniel Bellows (W.W. Norton; HarperCollins). Multimedia projections of his haunting visual art will accompany the performances.
New Amsterdam Records released Unremembered in album form in 2015. It was featured on "Best of 2015" lists by many respected publications including The Washington Post and The Nation. Q2 Radio listeners awarded Unremembered "50 Best Classical Works of the Past Twenty Years" in both 2015 and 2016. The tour's vocalists Newsome, Nova, and Stith are on the Unremembered album.
