Peter Gregson | 'Quartets: One' and 'Quartets: Two'
2nd November 2017
The New Yorker
Peter Gregson, the British-born cellist and composer, wrote the score for the 2015 film A Little Chaos (directed by Alan Rickman and starring Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts). It was nominated for the Public Choice award at the World Soundtrack Awards and named Vanity Fair critic Richard Lawson's score of the year 2015, dubbing it 'a string-heavy stunner'.
His debut solo album, Terminal, led to his first ballet commission, Hubert Essakow's Flow, presented at The Print Room in London. Flow explored unique properties and different states of water, and revealed the dynamic relationship of mankind to this essential element, the most valuable of commodities.

Recently Gregson collaborated with the Nhan Ho Project and San Jose Orchestra for a new work, Inside & Outside, choreographed by Nhan Ho.
Upcoming dance-collaboration performances include Vancouver-based Ballet BC's Eight Years of Silence created by Resident Choreographer Cayetano Soto, a visionary of contemporary ballet. Music includes fade in/fade out, Primary Colours, The Day Before, Space, and Duplicity. Cited by Dance Europe as having "an abundance of originality," Soto commands his audiences to dive into intriguing worlds of curiosity and discovery with his choreography.

Gregson's work to date has explored fusing analogue synthesizers with piano and strings, but this EP is left as a pure series of string quartets recorded simply in a former church in North London. This is the first of Gregson's releases where he has not played his cello, preferring here to focus on writing for the quartet. An early track premiere on Headphone Commute, which called the EP 'simply gorgeous, with no need for further words', has led to international radio play for The Day Before.

Gregson recently completed the music for Boundless, an open-world game for Playstation and PC. This is one very creative and versatile young artist!
