Avner Dorman Premieres in Warsaw, Chicago, Boston, and more

Avner Dorman continues to expand the discography of his concertos with the September 13 World Premiere release of his Nigunim (Violin Concerto No. 2), on Analekta. Featuring soloist Lara St. John and Boris Brott conducting the Orchestre Classique de Montréal, this recording marks Nigunim's winning the 2018 Azrieli Music Prize, one of North America's top awards for Jewish music. The release coincides with the European Premiere performances of Nigunim, taking place September 15 in Warsaw and September 17 in Prague.

James Gaffigan leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Principal Percussion Cynthia Yeh in the US Premiere of Dorman's new percussion concerto Eternal Rhythm October 3-5, on a program that also includes Symphony No. 8 in C Minor, Op. 65, by Dmitri Shostakovich. Dorman recently conducted Eternal Rhythm at the Enescu Festival (who co-commissioned the concerto with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra) September 5, with the piece's dedicatee Simone Rubino as soloist.

Pinchas Zukerman and Amanda Forsyth continue to tour Dorman's 2019 Double Concerto this season. The National Arts Centre Orchestra, where Zukerman is Conductor Emeritus and Forsyth was Principal Cello from 1999 to 2015, presents the commissioned, Canadian Premiere of the Double Concerto November 27 under the direction of Pietari Inkinen. Composed as a 70th-birthday present for Zukerman, the Double Concerto premiered this past summer with co-commissioners Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Boston Symphony Orchestra. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra also performs the work April 7-12 with Zukerman and Forsyth, and Nimrod David Pfeffer conducting.

Back in the States, Avner Dorman continues to grow his relationship with Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Artistic Director Gil Rose, who conducts the East Coast Premiere of Dorman's Ellef Symphony November 23. This concert, titled "Klezmer Madness," also includes the beloved Concerto for Klezmer Clarinet by Wlad Marhulets, featuring soloist David Krakauer.
