On December 9, the orchestral version of Weihnachtsoratorium by Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen premieres with Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, Concert Clemens, Vokalensemblet GAIA and tenor Peter Lodahl, under the direction of Florian Helgath.
Taking on Bach’s well know Christmas Oratorio is a changing task. Inspired by the much-loved musical classic of Christmas, Agerfeldt Olesen celebrates both the hopeful and mystical joy surrounding Christmas as well as the darkness it also carries. Weihnachtsoratorium contains extracts from Bach’s Oratorio, The Gospel of Luke and quotations from the Pegida demonstrations.
This new spin on Bach’s much-loved classic, Agerfeldt Olesen’s Weihnachtsoratorium is one of the most exciting works in Danish music from recent years.
Weihnachtsoratorium premiered in its original chamber orchestra version with Århus Sinfonietta in 2017. Both the orchestral and chamber version are available to perform from Wise Music Group.
