After the success of his first opera Wahnfried, a new opera by Avner Dorman is now coming to the stage: Die Kinder des Sultans, based on a libretto by Ingeborg von Zadow, was initiated as part of the cooperation of Junge Opern Rhein Ruhr and commissioned by Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Oper Bonn, und Theater Dortmund. Anna Drescher is responsible for the stage direction.
The world premiere of Die Kinder des Sultans will be performed by soloists and the ensemble of Opernchor Theater Dortmund and Dortmunder Philharmoniker, conducted by Christoph JK Müller in Dortmund on March 6. Further performances will follow in Düsseldorf, Duisburg and Bonn.
The opera is a modern fairy tale about the coexistence of different worlds. The twins Fadeya and Taseh embark on a journey to the country of Sultania, far away in the desert. It is said that their father, whom they have never met, is the Sultan of this country. But the way to him and his palace is full of dangers.
