The music of American composer Missy Mazzoli has been programmed far and wide across Europe this Summer. Throughout August and September Mazzoli has attended many of these events, beginning with the Swedish premiere of the opera Breaking the Waves with librettist Royce Vavrek at the Vadstena Akademie. On August 14, Mazzoli travelled to London for the European premiere of her Violin Concerto, Procession performed by soloist Jennifer Koh, the Philharmonia Orchestra and conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali at the BBC Proms.
The next world premiere takes place September 4 with the first performances of the double bass and quintet version of her Dark with Excessive Bright as part of the Beethoven Bonn Festival. Mazzoli will call Oslo her home for August and September along with librettist Vavrek for the rehearsals and world premiere of their opera The Listeners with the Norwegian National Opera running from September 24 – October 9.
