On October 13, 2022, Outi Tarkiainen’s orchestral work The Ring of Fire and Love is being performed in three different places simultaneously. That doesn't happen often!
Three performances in three countries:
· An Icelandic premiere in Reykjavik, with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra at Nordic Music Days, under the direction of Anna-Maria Helsing.
· A Swedish performance with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra, in Sundsvall, under the direction of Emilia Hoving.
This concert will also be performed in Själevad on October 14, 2022.
· A Finnish performance with the Lappeenranta City Orchestrav, in Lappeenranta, under the direction of Tomas Djupsjöbacka.
What a day! One we’d like to call Outi Tarkiainen Day.
The Ring of Fire and Love was commissioned by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Jyväskylä Sinfonia and Kymi Sinfonietta. Each commissioner received a tailor-made version: a full orchestra version, a reduced version and a small strings version.
The young Finnish composer’s music is being commissioned and performed all over the world. Her first opera A Room of One’s Own is currently playing at Theater Hagen, where it received its world premiere May 14, 2022. The Savonlinna Opera Festival will present the opera’s Finnish premiere July 26, 2023.
