On November 11-12, 2022, internationally renowned violinist Leila Josefowicz performs the US Premiere of the Violin Concerto by composer Helen Grime. These performances are with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of John Storgårds and will be broadcast live on November 12.
Composed one continuous movement, the Violin Concerto falls into three main sections connected by dreamlike interlinking passages. Violent, virtuosic music covering the whole range of the violin is contrasted with more delicate and reflective filigree material, which features oscillating natural harmonic passages and searching melodies.
Storgårds reunites with Josefowicz on April 6 and 8, 2023, to give the Canadian Premiere of Grime’s Concerto with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Josefowicz concludes the season with additional performances of the Violin Concerto, hosted by the Detroit and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras.
