Bryce Dessner will be Creative Chair at Tonhalle Zürich for the 2023/24 season. Since 2015, the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich invites composers to be Creative Chair for one season and former composers to receive this role are, among others, Arvo Pärt and John Adams.
From September 2023 to July 2024, a wide variety of Dessner’s compositions are performed, ranging from works for string quartet and ensemble up to large orchestral pieces.
During the season, his new Piano Concerto premieres with pianist Alice Sara Ott, conducted by Kent Nagano. Several other works receive their Swiss premiere, such as St. Carolyn by the Sea, where Bryce Dessner himself performs as soloist with the electric guitar, together with David Chalmin, and the Violin Concerto with Pekka Kuusisto as soloist, conducted by Joana Mallwitz.
