This Saturday, July 22, the world premiere of Edition Peters composer Jonathan Dove and librettist Alasdair Middleton's explosive new opera Itch will take place at Opera Holland Park.
Commissioned by Opera Holland Park in a co-production with the Canadian Opera Company, Itch is a science-fuelled thriller spliced with brilliant operatic set pieces and big emotions.
The brand new chamber opera is adapted from Simon Mayo’s best-selling novels, Itch and Itch Rocks. The story follows 14-year-old element-hunter protagonist Itch as he discovers a new element from the depths of the earth which has the power to change the world. Itch and his family are catapulted into a breathless quest with terrifyingly high stakes.

The creative team is headed up by director Stephen Barlow and the Olivier-nominated designer Frankie Bradshaw interprets the story for the stage. It brings together a sparkling cast of eight singers including Adam Temple-Smith as Itch and Rebecca Bottone as his mother Jude. Alongside the City of London Sinfonia, they create a soundworld that speaks of dangerous treasures.
Itch will run from July 22 until August 4 at Opera Holland Park.
