Outi Tarkiainen wins the MPA* Finland Award for her English Horn Concerto Milky Ways, in the category Art Music Composer of the Year - Large Scale Works.
Milky Ways was commissioned by the Finnish Radio, BBC Radio 3 and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
The work is a confluence between the crucial themes of motherhood and nature, here cosmology, so essential to Tarkiainen's music. Three movements transporting us through the hipnotic sound of the English Horn that soars from Mother Earth to the celestial Milky Way; to the sweet, solid, loving cradle of life. (Outi Tarkiainen)
