CELIA CRAIG’S RECORDING RELEASE OF JUDITH WEIR’S OBOE CONCERTO
The Oboe Concerto by Master of the King’s Music Judith Weir CBE was written for Celia Craig, who gave the world premiere performance in Adelaide in October 2018 with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra conducted by Douglas Boyd. The concerto lasts approximately 18 minutes and is divided into two movements, the second having a melancholy but also dance-like feel.
A recording of the world premiere has just been released on Celia Craig’s recording label, Artaria. (Interestingly this recording is a ‘triple double reed experience’ as Judith Weir and Douglas Boyd are also oboists.)
Adelaide Symphony Orchestra was a co-commissioner of this work alongside the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. The UK premiere was given by Celia with BBC NOW in September 2019.
West Australian Symphony Orchestra will present Weir’s Oboe Concerto later this year on 3 and 4 November, with its principal oboist, Liz Chee. Tickets for these performances are available HERE
