Experience the colours of Rainbow by Thea Musgrave. Rainbow is soundscape in both a literal and figurative sense. In nature a rainbow heralds the end of a storm and the reappearance of the sun. Rainbow begins with a quiet expressive oboe solo accompanied by a sustained A major chord (representing the sun), soon to be overwhelmed by the approaching storm which erupts violently in a fast tumultuous section.
Under Douglas Boyd’s baton, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra delivers this suspenseful Australian premiere.
Included in the program is one of the cornerstones of the Piano Concerto repertoire, Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor by Peter Illich Tchaikovsky. This three-movement concerto is one of Tchaikovsky’s best known and recorded works. It demands attention from the opening bars all the way through to the closing moments.
