On February 22, four Retrospectives by Jesper Nordin will be performed by Västerås Sinfonietta under the baton of Simon Crawford-Phillips in Konserthus, Västerås, Sweden. 2nd Retrospective and 4th Retrospective will receive their world premiere.
Retrospectives 1 - 4 is a series of orchestral pieces where I go back to earlier material and look at it in a different way. I do this mostly by re-composing existing material through my technology Reactional Music where I can import the ‘musical DNA’ of a piece and then see what else can be obtained from the same material.

2nd Retrospective was commissioned with a very specific collaboration in mind. Performing together with Västerås Sinfonietta are Elefantöra, an inclusive ensemble where some of the members have different physical disabilities and dancers from the inclusive dance group Candoco Dance Company.
Written for the internationally acclaimed double bass soloist Rick Stotijn, 4th Retrospective is the result of a long lasting collaboration between the soloist and the composer. It started many years ago when Stotijn performed Nordin's music as solo bass player in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The amazing skill of the performer and their mutual artistic preferences have been leading the work on this concerto.
The concert also features the other two retrospectives. 1st Retrospective for string orchestra was commissioned for the inauguration of the new Campus for the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, fifteen years after the composer graduated from the same college. The conductor Simon Crawford-Philips will be performing as soloist at the piano. For the 3rd Retrospective, violinist Daniel Frankel will take the solo part.
