A 2020 Guitar Concerto by Oliver Davis, first released on his acclaimed studio album Solace, will have its live world premiere in Copenhagen on February 28 with guitarist Francesco Rista. Hjörtur Páll Eggertsson will conduct the DKDM Ensemble. A concerto in three movements, it was first conceived as a work for two guitars; in its final form, harp takes the place of a second guitar.
The premiere recording was made by Sergio Puccini (guitar), Oliver Wass (harp), Oliver Davis (piano) and Henry Hanssen (trombone) with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and Peacock Ensemble conducted by Péter Illényi and released in 2021 through Signum Classics.
Elsewhere, in the world of dance, a remarkable five performances across the United States and United Kingdom will feature music by Oliver Davis on March 16. Among them, Pacific Northwest Ballet will remount Matthew Neenan’s Bacchus (music from the 2018 album Liberty), BalletMet debuts Ma Cong’s Flight of Fancy (featuring music from the 2015 album Flight) and the Joffrey Academy of Dance at the Joffrey Ballet debuts 2024 Winning Works Choreographer Xavier Núñez’s Camillia (featuring music from the 2022 album Air, the 2018 album Liberty, and the 2016 album Dance).
