Following the success of his second opera Hadrian, commissioned by The Canadian Opera Company Rufus Wainwright and director Jorn Weisbrodt have created a symphonic visual concert which gives a new interpretation of the 4 act opera taking material from the first three acts ending with the death of Antinoos at the end of Act 3.
Weisbrodt has conceived the work using images by Robert Mapplethorpe to express the story and highlight the inner tensions and torments of the characters of the opera. In this production Davóne Tines one of 5 soloists takes the role of Hadrian alongside the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Clarke Rundell. Rufus joins the orchestra after the break to perform songs from his extensive catalogue.
The tour is produced by Unusual Suspects and visits Antwerp, Brussels and Utrecht from March 15.
