Poul Ruders' opera The Handmaid's Tale with libretto by Paul Bentley recieves its German Premiere at Theater Freiburg on June 28, 2024.

Based on the book by Margaret Atwood, the futuristic dystopian story about the patriarchal and totalitarian Republic of Gilead became an opera in 1998 and premiered at the Royal Danish Opera in 2000.
