On September 6, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, soloist Valentine Michaud and conductor Daniel Harding will premiere the concerto for alto saxophone and orchestra Silhouettes and Shadows by Jesper Nordin at Berwaldhallen Stockholm. Another performance follows the next day.

The concerto is a collaboration between Valentine Michaud, Jesper Nordin, and transdisciplinary artist Emmanuel Michaud, who is responsible for the concert’s set design.

Silhouettes and Shadows deals with themes of grief, reconciliation, and the afterlife in three movements. The use of Nordin’s interactive technology Reactional Music and work of Emmanuel Michaud merges the orchestral music with digital elements, thereby expanding the concert experience from a purely musical one into areas of ‘fashion, visual art, movement, science fiction and forward-looking technology’. This distinct experience weaves together ritualistic aspects with explosive moments, guided by the Michaud siblings, who will both be on stage as soloists.
