Citadel Records has released four albums of orchestral film music by the Oscar-winning composer Franz Waxman, recorded by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and conductor Richard Mills.

Franz Waxman won two Oscars for Best Score in consecutive years and received twelve Academy nominations for his 150 film scores written during the 1930s-60s. This album is a major collection of suites and selections from the golden age of 20th-century filmmaking, offering inspiration to choreographers with stories to tell, and conductors seeking new showpieces.

Presented in categories, the albums' 'Fantasies' highlights The Bride of Frankenstein, while 'Epics' holds the seafaring Captains Courageous. 'The Great Ladies' offers star vehicles for Katherine Hepburn in Woman of the Year, Joan Crawford in Possessed, and Audrey Hepburn in The Nun's Story. 'World War II' reviews Mister Roberts and Hotel Berlin, and 'Thrillers' includes The Paradine Case alongside Sorry, Wrong Number and Night unto Night. 'Comedies' enjoys The Horn Blows at Midnight. 'Westerns' uncovers The Furies and three filmscores in The Pioneer Suite

Originally released on compact disc by Varese Sarabande in the 1990s, this set is newly remastered. John Waxman and Randall Larson wrote the discs' booklets. Scores and parts are available for orchestral performances. Read more and peruse scores on WiseMusicClassical.com, place orders via Zinfonia.com, and listen to selections on Spotify.
