World Premiere of Barton’s Journey to the Edge of the Horizon

William Barton performs with Ensemble Q in this world premiere performance tour of Journey to the Edge of the Horizon. The tour, of seven performances, will take place across several Australian states.

Journey to the Edge of the Horizon was commissioned by Musica Viva Australia with the support of the Hon. Anthe Philippides SC and the WA Commissioning Circle.

Barton writes, “The work embodies the ideas of travelling to the sunrise to the magic place on the horizon where all the sounds of earth and the culture of my people are imbedded in my DNA, a direct connection to the feeling - we are here in this space because of thousands of years of ceremony”.

“The custodians of the land prepare the ceremony for the Journey to the Edge of the Horizon acknowledging those before us who have created a safe space of connection to our external and internal chant. We now journey together to the Edge of the Horizon where we find truth and honesty and the best of humanity where the view of our world is about understanding and caring and our lullaby will be carried on the wind to the Edge of the Horizon for many centuries to come”.

With a core artist list of some of the finest musicians in Australia, Ensemble Q is directed by Co-Artistic Directors cellist Trish Dean and clarinetist Paul Dean. For this premiere concert tour Ensemble Q is joined by William Barton performing on didgeridoo.
