The Vorarlberg composer Richard Dünser has been awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art on October 03, 2024. 

Dünser lives in southern Styria and Vienna. He is Professor of Music Theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz.

Dünser was born in Bregenz in 1959. After graduating from high school and studying at the conservatory, he moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He has received several scholarships and prizes, including the BMUK Honour Award and the Theodor Körner Foundation Sponsorship Award.

Dünser has also written commissioned works for the Bregenz Festival, among others. For his opera Radek, premiered there in 2006, he was awarded the Ernst Krenek Prize in 2010. In addition to his work as a composer, he is a full professor of music theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, where he also teaches a composition class.

His works are published by Edition Peters since 2006.
