Jonathan Dove’s latest opera In 80 Tagen um die Welt (Around the World in 80 Days) premieres in Zurich on November 17.
Based on the novel of the same name by Jules Verne, Jonathan Dove and the librettist Peter Lund conjure the world of Phileas Fogg’s adventure to circumvent the globe in 80 days. In this version a boy named Max, who loves to read, finds himself as a Passepartout in the middle of Verne’s travel story.
Commissioned by Opernhaus Zürich, this is Dove’s first opera written in German and is scored for 8 singers and 20 players. Conducted by Michael Richter and directed by Peter Lund, In 80 Tagen um die Welt opens on November 17 for 14 performances.
This latest opera by Jonathan Dove for all the family joins a growing list that continues to entertain, enthral and engage new audiences including The Adventures of Pinocchio, Swanhunter, The Enchanted Pig and Itch.
