Calmus Ensemble are premiering Bernd Franke’s Face to Face in their anniversary concert on November 22, 2024.
Bernd Franke and Leipzig based vocal group Calmus Ensemble are collaborating very intensively and successfully. After their commission of And why? in 2010 Calmus have commissioned another work on the occasion of their 25th anniversary.
In the first anniversary concert on November 22, 2024 at St. Nicholas Church, Leipzig Franke’s Face to Face for five male voices will have it’s premiere.
The text is based on the Song of Songs from the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians by Paul of Tarsus and deals with the theme of love for one's neighbor, a very topical and timeless theme in the history of mankind. Compositionally, a main theme (face to face) returns again and again in a rondo-like manner and, with its tonal material, also forms the basis for constantly varying sound structures.
