This November 2024, Göteborg Symphony Orchestra will present two exciting Swedish Premieres, Helen Grime's Trumpet Concerto and Bryce Dessner's Violin Concerto.
Helen Grime's Trumpet Concerto (night-sky-blue)
On November 13, Håkan Hardenberger will perform the Swedish Premeire of Helen Grime's Trumpet Concerto with Göteborg Symphony Orchestra and Tabita Berglund.
In a unique concert centered around the theme of longing, Trumpet Concerto will be performed together with Anna Thorvaldsdottir's Metacosmos and Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 7.
With the subtitle night-sky-blue taken from a poem by Fiona Benson, the concerto draws its inspiration from nature after dark. The concerto is in a single movement where the music evolves over a series of interlinked sections.

Bryce Dessner's Violin Concerto
The following week, on November 20, Pekka Kuusisto will perform the Swedish Premiere of Bryce Dessner's Violin Concerto with Göteborg Symphony Orchestra and Andrew Manze.
Written and dedicated to Kuusisto, the concerto has been described as a mind-opening new work, showcasing Kuusisto’s energy and dazzling technique.
As Anne Carson’s essay ‘The Anthropology of Water’, Violin Concerto is a reimagining of the pilgrimage of Santiago, this time as a musical analog journey.
Writing a violin concerto is a journey so many composers have taken before.
So what does it mean for a contemporary artist to make this same journey and how these artifacts left behind by other artists inform our own course. Why are we drawn to a path so many before us have taken and often? What could I have to say that could be new or specific to my own journey? These were thoughts in my mind as I composed this concerto for my dear friend Pekka Kuusisto, also thinking of the amazing conductors and orchestras who would perform it.
