Wise Music Group is thrilled to announce an exclusive publishing with acclaimed Australian composer Paul Dean, represented by Wise Music G. Schirmer Australia.
Widely regarded as one of Australia's foremost musicians, Dean is celebrated not only for his contributions as a composer but also as an artistic director, clarinet soloist, and chamber musician. His impressive body of composed works spans over 100 compositions, including two operas, three symphonies, five concertos, and more than 70 chamber works
Dean’s music is recognised for its expansive approach to tonality, incorporating the distinct sounds of Australia in an innovative and evocative manner. His recent accolades include the 2022 Paul Lowin Orchestral Prize for Symphony No. 1: Black Summer and the 2023 APRA Award for Work of the Year – Large Ensemble for Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra.
Jane English, Managing Director of Wise Music Australia, states: “It is wonderful to welcome Paul Dean to Wise Music’s roster of outstanding Australian composers. His recent tour with Ensemble Q, which included his composition Concerto for Cello and Wind Quintet, was brilliant. We look forward to supporting his composer career to reach a wider global audience.”
David Harvey, Classical Promotions Manager at Wise Music Group, echoed these sentiments: “I have admired Paul Dean's compositions and arrangements for several years. His juxtapositions of tonality and compositional wind colours are exciting and fresh. I am proud to now represent and promote Paul's music to a worldwide audience.”
In addition to his compositional achievements, Dean holds academic and artistic leadership roles. He is currently a Professor at Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, Co-Artistic Director of Ensemble Q, and Conductor of the Queensland Youth Orchestra. In 2025, he will take up the position of Kinnane Professor of Music at the University of Queensland.
