English National Opera have announced their plans for productions across Greater Manchester for the coming years, including the UK premiere of Du Yun's Angel's Bone and a new production of Philip Glass' Einstein on the Beach.
Angel’s Bone, by Chinese American composer Du Yun and librettist Royce Vavrek, is a dark fable exploring modern-day slavery and human trafficking. The Pulitzer prize-winning contemporary opera draws inspiration from a range of musical genres, from classical to cabaret and punk. The UK premiere will be performed in May 2026, produced by ENO in collaboration with Factory International, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and presented at Aviva Studios.
Looking further ahead, in April 2027 Factory International, Improbable and Park Avenue Armory New York will present a new experiential production of Philip Glass and Robert Wilson’s opera Einstein on the Beach, directed by Improbable’s Phelim McDermott and premiering at Aviva Studios. The production follows the international success of Satyagraha and Akhnaten.
