Wise Music Group partners with Quantum Classics & ALAN Trilogy Project

Wise Music Asia Pacific is partnering with Quantum Classics, the home of the ALAN Trilogy – a powerful discovery through music and film of how human compassion and scientific ingenuity might collaborate to shape a better tomorrow for our world.

The ALAN Trilogy, created by Susan Lim with music composed by Manu Martin, is a groundbreaking artistic exploration of humanity's forward progress, centred around Alan, an inanimate toy lion brought to life by the technological breakthroughs of the not-too-distant future. This thought-provoking series of large-scale musical works for solo piano, orchestra and choir, are paired with animation to address modern societal challenges, beginning with ALAN I: Lim Fantasy of Companionship, which tackles loneliness, and continuing with ALAN II: Lim Cosmic Rhapsody, focused on environmental crises. The upcoming ALAN III: Lim Symphony of the Oceans will confront the issue of space debris.

“We are thrilled to announce a partnership with Wise Music Group, a company renowned for its dedication to fostering deep, personalised relationships with its composers and songwriters”, says Deepak Sharma, Founder of Quantum Classics. “Wise Music Group's extensive global network and industry expertise, helmed by Managing Director Jane English and Creative Director Gill Graham will be of invaluable help to co-creators Susan Lim and Christina Tan and Composers Manu Martin, Matthieu Eymard, Joi Barua and Ron Danziger. Partnership with Wise Music Group will enormously amplify the reach of our creators and composers, ensuring their music reaches wider global audiences, while benefiting from the personalised attention and support that Wise Music is known for."

Managing Director of Wise Music Asia Pacific, Jane English comments:

The ALAN Trilogy Project is a beautifully unique fusion of creativity, science, and music. The visionaries behind Quantum Classics - Susan Lim, Deepak Sharma, and Christina Tan - have brought together world-class composers and musicians to create this distinctive three-part musical journey that blends commercial music with the fascinating worlds of AI, space, and the ocean. From the first listen, Gill and I were immediately impressed by its exceptional quality and its potential for long term success as both a performance series and commercially successful albums.

ABOUT THE TRILOGY

ALAN I: Lim Fantasy of Companionship for Piano and Orchestra performed by pianist Tedd Joselson with the London Symphony Orchestra and London Voices has been released on Signum Classics and premiered in both Singapore and London. The US Premiere will see the Lim Fantasy return ‘home’ to UC Berkeley, California in December 2025. The animated film Lim Fantasy of Companionship between Human and Inanimate, co-created by Susan Lim and Christina Teenz Tan, and animation by Samudra Kajal Saikia, garnered numerous accolades, including Best Score at the British Short Film Awards 2021, and Best Family/Children Film at the Cannes World Film Festival 2023. Released on Signum Classics.

ALAN II: Lim Cosmic Rhapsody launches us on an interstellar voyage. Born from the tumultuous events of 2020 – a world grappling with a pandemic and witnessing the devastation of wildfires – and inspired by the historic return of NASA astronauts to space aboard Crew Dragon. Lim Cosmic Rhapsody captures the spirit of resilience and hope. It is a musical and cinematic experience, co-created by the ALAN team and animation by Samudra Kajal Saikia. The premiere recording was made by acclaimed pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Voices, conducted by Robert Ziegler and will be released digitally on Decca Classics on May 2 2025. Two singles Is Anybody Out There and Come Orbit With Me are available now.

Lim Cosmic Rhapsody, inspired by the futuristic science of digital teleportation and synthetic biology, sees new and expanded codes of life feature in the climactic Cosmic Bods. The animation introduces hybrid beings that combine human and synthetic elements, ‘Humanimates’ representing a potential future of collaborative evolution. As Dr Lim’s lyrics for Humanimate proclaim "A cocktail of building blocks / A,T,G,C (the bases in DNA) – Animate / A cocktail of building blocks / S, B, P, and Z – Inanimate / Forms an eight-letter code / Human and Inanimate combined / Humanimate / A new species defined".

The world premiere of Lim Cosmic Rhapsody takes place at the Barbican, London on May 5, 2025.

ALAN III: Lim Symphony of the Oceans draws inspiration from the preservation of the environment and the interconnectedness of the vast sea. The symphony takes us on a celestial voyage through space and time, into the Oceans.
The piece will be recorded in London’s Abbey Road Studios in April 2025 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It is a captivating and thought-provoking 45-minute orchestral composition that combines the power of piano and orchestra with the enchanting melodies of cello and violin. Soloists are the stellar threesome of pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, violinist Lisa Batiashvili and cellist Gautier Capuço
n, with vocals featuring Lucy Crowe and Tom Ball.
