The opening concert of the Starnberger Musiktage is featuring the world premiere of Bernd Franke’s Wild Land for nonet and string orchestra on April 13. Ariel Zuckermann is conducting the Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt and nine soloists, including Rudens Turku, who commissioned and inspired the composition.
During his journeys to South Africa, Bernd Franke got to know the photographs of Beverly and Peter Pickford that show unspoilt nature from all around the world. In 2022 Franke had the chance to meet the Pickfords and to learn more about their work. From this preoccupation and through his own relationship with nature, he found inspiration for his composition Wild Land, which is named after one of their photo books.
The three-movement work is extremely virtuosic and repeatedly plays with the smallest motif or interval cells; the minor third is a central interval.

Wild Land is dedicated to patron Ursula Heinsberg who made the composition possible by her generous support.
