Finland celebrates Jouni Kaipainen’s 50th birthday with fantastic concerts

Jouni Kaipainen turns 50 on 24th november 2006 and on the day itself the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra celebrates his birthday with a concert in Helsinki, where they are playing Kaipainen’s Concerto for Bassoon (2005) and Felicity and Fullnesse (2006) for baritone and orchestra. In Tampere, where Jouni Kaipainen lives and is composer-in-residence with the symphony orchestra, Jouni Kaipainen has himself been allowed to select the works that are to be played at the orchestra’s birthday concert on 1st December 2006: his own Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra (2003) with Pasi Pirinen as soloist and works by Richard Wagner, Leos Janácek and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Later in December 2006 Christian Tetzlaff and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo Jouni are premiering Kaipainen’s new violin concerto in Helsinki.
